“Good evening and a fine evening it is since you’re all here. One little announcement I’d like to make before we start. If you feel so inclined to smoke something, please go as far away from me as you can to do so. Otherwise, enjoy yourselves, have a great time. Buckle your seat belts, here we go” thus speaks Captain Belew as Crimson takes off for a top flight version of Frame By Frame.
The improvisation in Thrak (now bookended by the opening and closing riffs) opens up into quite a special place. Eye-witness David Ewing thought so too, as he described the event on ET at the time, describing it as one of the highlights of the show. “ It was slow, brooding, dark, mysterious - the musicians were really listening to each other. Great stuff (which I'd love to hear them do more of). Fripp even played a trademark distorted, sustaining solo.”
Aficionados of Clams Crimsonique are directed to Vrooom; some guitar tuning that isn’t and a fascinating collision of bass notes on a downbeat which lands the stick players in places where they probably didn’t expect to be at that precise moment. Good stuff here nevertheless!

King Crimson had been to our beautiful city of Denver as recently as of June 18th, 1995, at the same venue, The Paramount Theater. At that time, I was absolutely blow away at the power and ferocity of the beast!! The last time that I had seen KC was 6/6/84 at The Greek Theater in L.A., and the fact that Crim were back with a 6-piece line-up was beyond my imagination. This concert, October 27th, 1995, was absolutely brilliant!!! Since it was so close to Halloween, many in the crowd had dressed up, including one cat who was dressed as a caveman with a club! The concert started with the darkly mysterious soundscapes of Robert, complimented with eerie lighting and strange swirling green lights. The band slowly brought the improv (Conundrum), to a sharp stop, flying into Thela Hun Ginjeet! With this full sound, there was so much to concentrate on, as each member of the band was playing their hearts out. The only issue that I had was that I couldn’t hear Trey’s contributions. This is another reason why I purchase these DGM live releases, as the soundboards allow the full musical spectrum to reveal itself. There were so many highlights to this special concert, from Red, Neurotica, One Time, Talking Drum, Thrak (especially wicked!!), Dinosaur (with the gorgeous interlude that borders on chamber orchestra rock), to the breathtaking drum work from two of the very, very finest drum masters in the whole world. Robert was hidden in dark and mysterious ambient lighting, but this seemed to only enhance the power and deepness of his phenomenal playing. Tony was on fire the whole night too, as was Adrian who was having a wonderful time kibbetzing (yiddish for joking around), with the packed house!! For fans who live for music that is ever-evolving and reaching for the stars, this group, King Crimson, delivers it better than any group that I know of. Having followed them since 1969, all I can say is buy any of these releases! You will not be disappointed. In fact, more will be revealed with every single listen! Thank you Robert, Adrian, Bill, Pat, Tony and Trey. You guys are wonderful!!!
