Cadence And Cascade (Featuring Boz Burrell)

There’s been a long history of different studio vocal renditions of Cadence And Cascade. First was Greg Lake’s guide vocal during the early part of the Poseidon sessions which was itself replaced by Gordon Haskell’s rendition a few weeks later. Then, in the 90s Adrian Belew re-recorded the song for the Frame By Frame boxset, and during 2019, Jakko Jakszyk joined Lake, Haskell, and Belew in a studio remix featuring all four vocalists.

Now Alex ‘Stormy’ Mundy has taken Boz Burrell’s live performance vocal from the 1972 Summit Studios concert in Denver and skilfully edited it to the original Poseidon sessions track. Although the song was in the same key, the tempo was not and it took Alex quite a lot of time to bring the two things together. The result is a marvellous meeting of different times and places and Boz’s laconic delivery is perfectly suited to Sinfield’s lyric about groupies.

But as if that wasn’t enough, in working on the piece, Alex discovered a second flute overdub by Mel that's not been previously heard or used. Including this long-forgotten session from Collins for the very first time, this is a very special version of a song receiving here its own very special 50th-anniversary remix.
