Crimson gigs are of course about the total experience but it’s always interesting to focus in on the smaller moments within the gig for what they tell you about the band and the way it functions. As the audience applaud after Indiscipline and the end of the show proper, we can hear the Crims gathering in the centre of the stage. There’s laughter, an obligatory ‘YO!’ and and being dazzled by stage lights rendering the team virtually blind as they try to look out upon the ecstatic audience. With the rest of the band leaving the stage as the three drum set is put into place for Prism, we hear Bruford tell Mastelotto and Belew, “Nice and steady...not too fast,” and off they go. It’s Bruford who takes the first break, gently tinkering around the rig. As the audience cheer, Bill laughs to his bandmates, ‘I haven’t done anything yet!’ Of course he goes on to give the punters something to really cheer about.
