The Thrak tour had taken Crimson to South and North America as well as selected destinations in Europe. Now it was Japan’s turn. They’d played there twice in the 80s and from the silence that opens the Circular Improv you could be forgiven for thinking they were a overawed by the prospect. Not a bit of it. Once Bruford opens up with his xylophone, all manner of weird and wonderful sounds fill the air and don’t let up for the next hour and a half.
It’s a scorching start with Vrooom Vrooom and Dinosaur positively stomps along. During SSEDD Bruford and Mastelotto are really enjoying themselves and the topsy-turvy rhythmic interplay continues through People. There’s an urgency about the show but during Indiscipline Adrian catches everyone off guard just after he wishes you were here to see it. The team make a pretty neat recovery though. Afterwards, Bruford laughs, “We made it!”
