Falmouth All Saints Church
The first of two concerts in aid of the Shallal Dance Theatre finds Travis & Fripp continuing their investigation of melody, harmony and structure within a format that’s often nebulous and transient. Moving from the gentle inclines of Moonchild, ideas begin to shimmer like half-glimpsed manifestations.

Soaring And Gliding moves between some decidedly ominous, drifting chords as Travis’ soprano provides a fixed point of reference or perhaps a sense of comfort in this shifting environment. The sax now replicated begins a swirling dialogue with real and ghost self, after which Fripp adds to the conversation with a delicate, muted commentary. Don’t mistake the relatively calm nature of the music for inactivity. There’s so much going on and such composition in real time makes for enthralling listening. “Great gig I thought,” says Theo recalling the performance and noting that the opening Pastorale can be found on the DVD bonus video section on the 201X T&F album, Follow.
