Bath Spiegeltent
After an oblique and cautious start, Travis and Fripp bed down into a set that offered a kind of aural sanctuary space and on occasion more provocative locations for listeners. Theo recalls “This was in the Spiegeltent – a large tent which was in situ as part of the 2010 Bath festival. It was a unique appearance by Travis & Fripp as it was at a public festival and beer tent too! Not a sacred space at all.
There was no security at all and I was concerned whether people would bother Robert. Remarkably it all went very well and I thought we did some particularly ‘muscular’ playing eg in the encore. This was the first performance of a piece that developed into ‘A Careful Distance’ on Discretion. A most enjoyable performance.
I noticed that Michael Giles made an appearance at the back of the tent and also Richard Evans, the producer, musician, sound engineer and Peter Gabriel collaborator.”
