It’s the second night of the tour and the band are at a sold-out Variety Playhouse in Atlanta. Eye-witness Neal Ford communicated his experience via the Elephant Talk message board thus: “In a word: WOW!” According to Neal, Belew introduced the evening with his “Welcome the difficult listening hour” quip. For Glenn Miller, LTIA IV “was almost too much to take,” with “Everyone, including Robert, looked like they were having a blast. Good sound, good lights. Good everything.”

Sadly all that remains in the DGMLive archives of this event is three tracks from the end of the set. The Power To Believe III featuring Trey Gunn’s beautiful solo causes one punter to yell out “You are the sickest bass player!” It’s just possible to discern Adrian’s voice somewhat stretched during parts of Dinosaur as he nursed the bug that would take him out of the next gig at the Birchmere in Alexandria, VA causing ProjeKct Three to make an impromptu appearance instead.

The extended applause at the end of the track was prolonged a touch more than usual because Robert had to make a quick visit to the rest room. “We’ve had a most pleasant Saturday evening here. I wish we could do this more often,” says a slightly hoarse sounding Belew, a sentiment the crowd here clearly agree with as the band dispatch Vrooom with more certainty and relish than they had managed at the previous show.

11.00 The King Crimson Nashville To Asheville tour is now ended, and has merged seamlessly with the tour of Nashville To Lotsa Places Everywhere Else On Three Continents. The tour of Europe looks likely, even a goer. This includes points of existential terror for me, notably the Congresshall in Warsaw - a gift from Uncle Joe to his pals, the Polish people. This is one good example of how to transfer paranoia into architecture. Another good example: the house in Holland where GC held a course in 1987. The owner/architect built it as a way of keeping out the world, locked himself in, and committed suicide. There were some strange dreams flying around the team that week. But I witter, on, associatively. And some associative wittering is forgivable while traveling on a tourbus out of North C...
