Massey Hall

“Good evening! Welcome to King Crimson’s first performance back here since July 7th, 1984,” says Adrian Belew. Back in the 80s, the setlist included Red, Indiscipline, Frame By Frame, Elephant Talk, and Larks’ Tongues In Aspic Part 2 and, interestingly, all of those pieces are heard during the course of this evening’s concert though not necessarily in the same running order!

A performance bookended by Marine 475’s chugging juggernaut-rock, as in 1984, it's the new material that really stands out, absolutely brimming with vim and vigour. Listen out for an especially punchy version of People with its stop-start shuffle during the verses before slamming full-on into a windmilling chorus that drives it forward to a devastating finale. A stunner and no mistake.

Trivia fans will also take a worrying degree of pleasure when noting that Lark’s Tongues In Aspic Part 2 was on the setlist when King Crimson last played this specific venue on the 24th June, 1974, thus lending a three-decade continuity to this proceedings.
