Sadly this concert appears missing the opening couple of numbers and indeed the opening bars of TCOL. That means there's no official record of Larks 1 Level 5 mini-epic at this concert. Yet there are other moments to tempt the listener. For example the middle section of Thela presents us with an astonishing dog fight between Mastelotto and Belew who rumble, tumble and tangle with each other, pushing and shoving around the sonic stage. It's an example of how exhilarating Crimson can be and in the moments where you least expect it. A turbulent Level 5 provides lots of thrills and spills and there are times when it sounds as though the band aren't quite in control of the thing they've unleashed. The segue into Virtuous Circle is quite beautiful, as is the momentary frisson between Fripp's dreamy solo and the Mastelotto-triggered Jamie Muir aerophones. A bruising LTIA IV also provides plenty of those moments when you're taken aback at what the band are managing to do. Turbo-charged doesn't quite capture it really.

Going Red in the Desert
The band’s sixth show on the Level Five tour. It’s a shame that Dangerous Curves and especially Larks’ I/Level Five are missing from the recording. The recording starts early on The ConstruKction of Light and the band are in great form. Adrian gets a little lost on the words near the end and you can hear him cracking up as a result. The rest of the show is just as hot although the band does sound a bit tired near the end. Probably due to the desert heat as well. Adrian says that If it were...

The rest of the show is just as hot although the band does sound a bit tired near the end. Probably due to the desert heat as well. Adrian says that If it weren’t for the curfew that the band would stay a couple of more hours but the show looks to run about average playing time for the tour. Standouts are aplenty in this show. If you have the tour bundle, check it out. If you can’t afford the bundle but only a few shows here and there, then add this one to your list! You won’t be sorry.
