Whilst we’re used to hearing Trey take the limelight on Thrush, here it’s Robert’s who breaks from his usual string settings and provide a simply breathtaking and beautifully stirring solo.
Trey’s diary notes “A decent effort on our behalf, but an extremely difficult hall to play in. I remember this being quite a good gig with Crimson, but the sound was dreadful for Projekct 2. It had a huge washy glow around everything we played, which made it impossible to hear pitch at all. This would be fine with a band that had "pieces", but for an all improvised context.... it was probably a hard listen for the audience as well.” Obviously not that hard as they got demanded, and got, not one but two encores!
Eye witness accounts report that there was lots of eye contact, smiles and grins exchanged between the musicians as they play and this sense of mutual encouragement comes across in what is a lively beginning to this phase of P2’s live work.
