The early days of a group are a process of discovery that combines the desire not only to find common ground but explore something outside one’s previous experience.

In the summer of 1972, as the new incarnation of King Crimson was finding their feet, they did just that in a number of rehearsal sessions.

This extract comes from a 30-minute improvisation between Bill Bruford, John Wetton, David Cross, and Jamie Muir but interestingly, missing Robert Fripp.

Arguably a Larks’ fraKctal, this recently discovered session reel highlights the way in which the players interact and float ideas as they conduct a musical conversation, developing the collective vocabulary they would hone and polish on tour later in the year.

Previously unreleased in any form, this extract is exclusive to download and is not included in the forthcoming 50th-anniversary edition Larks’ Tongues In Aspic.
