Crafting one of KC's prettiest ballads
LADY OF THE DANCING WATER This session starts off with three takes of electric piano, over which Mel records flute solos. I could listen to him play flute all day! Afterwards, two takes of piano (very dark and dramatic sounding) with mellotron strings- a very warm and somewhat Beatlesy sound that has a very different vibe from the final form this song would take. Interestingly, the acoustic guitar that would eventually become the backbone of the whole song is not heard until relatively late in the process, as it is added as an overdub on the sixth take. Finally, the last track adds the vocals, as well as a sober, melancholy trombone overdub.
