“One very practical down to earth way of putting it is to say that if you manage to get your self, your egotism out of the way, of being a performer or a member of the audience - ‘I paid my money; he hasn’t played what I like; those bleeps and drones? What a bore; look at that turkey, he’s got a shaving rash I could do better than that” and all these feelings we have as a members of the audience, we’ve paid the money and here is the turkey and we could do better couldn’t we. And if we can get that out of the way and plug into the role of being a listener, what it is to be a listener, then there is a quality of energy. We can do things which otherwise wouldn’t be possible.”
