While Robert’s accounts of his life as a touring player often understandably focus on the hard and unforgiving obstacles that frequently conspire to attempt to prevent music from appearing, his diary also shares tender moments such as this:
“The evening is clear, warm and delightful following a deluge this afternoon. The large tent, covering stage and seating, conveys a sense of openness that is an ideal setting for Soundscapes. My set was a little longer, from 17.30-20.20. The middle found an open, enigmatic, drifting mood that was probably its musical highlight.
Cheesecake has been added to the rider tonight, and it's very tasty cheesecake too. I persuaded Mike Keneally to come and have a piece. We had an interesting discussion on his (now independent) recording career; the fire on Steve's bus when Mike lost a lot of his personal possessions (including Thrakattak!); and his perspective of Crimson from the outside, mine from the inside.
What sweet people on this tour.”
