Writing in his diary, Fripp offers these thoughts on the gig in Rennes “..not only did the group make some inexcusable blunders but they were presented to a seated audience in a small theatre. As a dance band with the emphasis on spirit rather than competence we had specified rock clubs with dance floors. In other words, while I was busy writing, rehearsing and touring with a new, inexperienced band, the office in London was unable to take care of basic matters.”

That said, the eight numbers presented here (all that remains in the archive) don’t appear to point to any of the “inexcusable blunders” Fripp mentions.

It is however a shortened set list and though a somewhat subdued aspect to the normally extrovert Thrang Thrang Gozinbulx, there’s plenty of bite in the tracks that remain. Were the offending tracks expunged from the tape at the time?
