This is a rare look into the mind of a master of his craft. While it’s explicitly about guitar craft, the discussion would apply to anyone who creates things out of thin air, including comptuer programmers. The distinctions among the tradesman, master, and apprentice are very applicable to the computer field. So is the tension between doing your trade day in and day out and still trying to be inspired by what excited you in the first place. I detect Taoist thought...

I detect Taoist thought in places, especially about not trying to play a correct note and then playing it anyway. Royalston Talk
A fascinating and challenging recording. Not as challenging as being there, as you have the easy option of replaying any part ad infinitum until you grasp the point. It has had the effect of making me look at my playing in a new, if occasionally all too bright light. Thank You Robert.

Listening to Robert talk
I found this interesting and entertaining. I realized that I would rather watch as Robert gave this talk than just listen to it. I’m missing the facial expressions that go along with the message. BUT, since I wasn’t invited, I’ll listen in with an obstructed view. One thing though, what is that annoying whirring that starts and stops at regular intervals throughout Roberts talk?
