There’s something incredibly powerful about the run of tracks that begins with TPTB II, through to LTIA Pt IV, a place where all kinds of peculiar energies are unlocked and unleashed. There are so many individual highlights; Adrian’s strange, gritty sidewinding solo which opens TPTBII; Pat’s frenetic in-flight sampling and shifting rhythms during Dangerous Curves; Fripp’s ferocious runs on LTIA Pt IV rock like the clappers. The only sad point in this run is that just as the track moves into Adrian’s solo spot, the recording is abruptly cut off! A great pity.
Fripp notes in his diary that “The negotiation of the space, between audience and performers, took about 70 minutes; then, there seemed to be some mutual accommodation; then, acceptance & applause; then, acknowledgement. Overall, a generous audience.”
The vagaries of this soundboard means that Ade’s vocals are probably a little higher in the mix than he might like, and although Trey isn’t always well served level-wise, happily his solo on Thrush has him coming through loud and clear.
