One of the delights of Dangerous Curves is the way Mastelotto constantly seasons the percussion with sampled voices. If you listen carefully you can hear Fripp's stage announcement at Denver about the dancing lady swirling in the mix. Having got off to a great start, we fly past the mini-epic of LTIA 1 / Level 5, a wonderfully smooth TCOL and a truly stonking Frying Pan. Tonight it sounds like they've got EleKtriK pretty much under their fingers as it picks up momentum. Listen out also for another tiny improv (or Vector in ProjeKct-speak) as a little curtain-raising before Thela. Short but very atmospheric. Belew is on top form during ProzaKc and an especially potent LTIA IV. When Crimson play with this kind of monstrous power it can be overwhelming for audiences. Eye-witness Sarah Metivier and one-time ET correspondent had this to say about the show. "I have never witnessed anything like that at all. I left the concert feeling physically weak. Sorry this review is completely one-dimensional, but I have nothing else to say.....brilliant. Simply brilliant. On to Chicago!"

King Crimson has always been a band that has followed it’s heart. Crim is not dictated by commercial forces, though they are very appreciated and enjoy a large following of people from all over the world and from the past 44 years (since 1969). Here is a fantastic example of KC in concert. I was fortunate to see the band on Nov. 19th, 2001 at Denver, CO. At that show, there was a woman who was a bit out of it and Robert handled the situation with much heart and care. Fast-forward ...

At that show, there was a woman who was a bit out of it and Robert handled the situation with much heart and care. Fast-forward 4 days and this concert shows the band simply on fire!! The gremlins that had plagued KC on Monday night were not present here, and the group had the opportunity and ran with it. Some of the many, many highlights of the Madison show are: LTIA IV, Level V, Virtous Circle, Dangerous Curves (with fine samples of Monday night’s fun), Deception of The Thrush (one of my favorites), ELEKTRIK, and Red. This is only a few. Watching these guys, it never ceases to amaze me how professional and human they are. On Monday night, Ade’s guitar simply gave up the ghost on Virtuous Circle, and Robert, Pat and Trey were forced to "go for it". Being a musician myself (46 years as a professional guitarist), nothing is more amazing to me than see another musician who’s in trouble and the other guys come to their aid. The musician who’s in trouble is thinking at a billion miles a second, and so are the other guys. Brilliant and most human. With much heart!! My favorite band ever!!! Since 1968 and Giles, Giles & Fripp. P.S. I’ve recently purchased the Road To Read and had the fun idea of making a 4-CD box set of my own of all improvs, including the Great Deceiver Box Set, Heidelburg, Augsburg, Mainz, Richard’s Club, and a number of others. Four-CDS of amazing and brilliant improvisations. From delicate and almost classical in nature, to all out savage. Only from the band with the heart...King Crimson. Thank you for so many years of truly brilliant work. Looking most forward to King Crimson in 2014!!!!
