Others, unsurprisingly took a different view. Mark Berton noted via a couple of back-handed compliments “I think the most impressive aspect of the show was that I got to see how accomplished Trey Gunn has become. While he definitely is not Tony Levin, he adds his own flair and personality to the stick lines Mr. Levin originated. The pieces he wrote for COL are exquisite and he improved a beautiful melody over a soundscape by Fripp and Pat that rivaled "Trio."”
Elsewhere Joseph opined, “There may or may not be better musicians in the world today, but not four of this quality on the same stage! During most songs I was stunned! Crimson knocked me out!”
To these ears, 15 years after the event the show probably sits somewhere between RF’s judgement and those enthusiastic audients; not a bad show yet not one that catches fire as much as one might hope.
