With the two big hitters dispatched so early in the set, there’s a risk that things go off the boil. Not so. After the stomping mayhem of Frying Pan, the first improvisation in the set goes into a spacey and pensive vibe, quite different to anything from previous dates.
With its bells and delicate percussion, the second improv section foreshadows The Power To Believe, with Ade’s reverbed guitar creating a space we’ve not quite heard in other gigs at this point in the set. After some ProjeKct-style vectoring they go into the precursor Virtuous Circle. The improvs here are far more integrated into the set list than on other gigs. Also notable, is the appearance for the first time on the tour of SSEDD.
Three days later, the Crims kicked off a new US tour in San Francisco.
