A good performance although as the gig progressed the weather moved in again perhaps dampening some of the spirits of those present. The improv during Thrak contains some superb moments with Belew turning in some lines that sound like that vintage Fripp laser-beam tone. After a busy rhythmic work-out, the piece coalesces into a superb steadily-building momentum akin to a military march with Fripp and Gunn’s respective guitars howling and screaming into the night. This is stunning stuff and certainly one of the best of the tour.
Schizoid Man is well and truly nailed although Red wobbles alarmingly just toward the end. “It began to rain heavily and at a point Fripp just quit playing, trying to dry his hands, and the concert came to an end rather abruptly” says Mister Bagno.
Tony Levin confirms Alessandro's observations. "Really got soaked at the Lignano show...on the last encore, we abbreviated RED by visual cue as all our guitars got drenched."
"My last appeal to Fripp is that if the Lignano improv ever finds its way into an official bootleg, it go by Helpless and Highly Drenched". Well, 15 years on from that wet night in Lignano you’ve got your wish, Alessandro!
