"Woah, what a night" says Belew at the end of the formal set just before embarking on Heartbeat. Crimson are clearly not quite up to boil on this occasion, providing the generous listener with the sound of a group still figuring out how its all meant to fit together.

Right from the off there are teething troubles which soon require root canal surgery as the night progresses wherein a combination of blindsided fingers and errant stompboxes go off script. FxF is curiously underpowered and ever so slightly lethargic in places as the Crimson crew get to grips with their on-stage environment.

Discipline isn't quite as together as you'd normally like but in these circumstances the interest lies in the recovery from the wrong turns and missed steps. The B'Boom and Thrak sections are where the band seems to find its feet although the vagaries of the soundboard mix has the storming guitar solo as something of a remote event on the distant horizon.

Vrooom Vrooom charges along nicely building momentum though it too suffers from a wobble or two as buttons are pressed but the results aren't what was expected or hoped for. However during LTIA the extent of technical problems which have dogged tonight becomes evident as the piece teeters on the edge of falling apart entirely, saved only by some quick thinking from Gunn and a determined Belew.
