There are a few here who are very kindly and very generously suggesting numbers that we can play this evening. May I say…that we will ignore them completely,” explains Robert Fripp to a highly excitable San Francisco crowd. Although not the best quality audience recording, Alex Mundy’s brand of TLC has worked wonders at resurrecting the music from the nether regions of audio purgatory. There’s a lot to like here. Wetton’s extraordinarily mobile bass work during the instrumental section of Easy Money as Fripp solos is audacious and a perfect example of why Wetton was regarded as one of the best by many of his peers in the industry.
After a sadly incomplete comes Fracture. Like Lament and The NightWatch from earlier in the set, these would have been unknown to the punters on the night. The track is still several weeks away from its definitive recording at Amsterdam’s Concertgebouw and still yet more months away from appearing on record. Fripp’s soloing in the blowing section before the big power chords, though sonically compromised, is off the charts.

There is a little uncertainty as to wether this is the 12th or 13th October, so we have plumped for the 12th just to give it a home.

Winterland
For the record, the name of the venue is the "Winterland Ballroom", or more commonly, simply "Winterland" (one word), and was one of Bill Graham's storied Bay Area music venues. As for the show, as hinted in the blurb at the top – John Wetton is a beast. Wow. Less one star for the so-so recording

But it is listenable, if you are a fan. The 5 stars are for the playing. A typical audience recording, where you do hear a lot of audience talking in the background. I enjoyed listening to this concert.
