It’s easy to imagine the people coming and going in the city that never sleeps, passing this way and that, as the Soundscapes permeate the space they traverse as they go about their daily lunchtime rituals. At the centre of all this sits the ‘scaper, helping to guide these grandly swooping notes and swirling motifs into the space. As if a mirage, Affirmation shimmers in the distance, slipping through the Threshold Bells and into Paradise Lost where curious, pixelated piano notes wobble on a tightrope between the foreground and background of gliding strings and somnolent drones. The final Threnody presents listeners with a lot to digest and at least one or two of the would-be diners likely suffered from indigestion in its presence. Fripp’s diary wittily notes, “Quote of the noon performance, from a cleaner, overheard by John Sinks at the mixing desk: "Do they pay him to do that?”
