Taken from the mid-1980s sessions that saw Crimson in search of their elusive third album, this Tony Levin riff is seized upon by Bill Bruford and investigated for feel. Alex has brought in a somewhat melancholic swirl of soundscapes and the chiming arpeggio that Fripp favoured in the early 90s with the likes of FFDW, Future Sounds Of London, and The Grid, not to mention his own releases, specifically, 1999 (Soundscapes - Live In Argentina). Listening to these two different time streams converge all these years later, it’s a shame they couldn’t have been conjured up during 3OAPP sessions. It’s easy to imagine what Adrian Belew might have done had he been able to hear such a strong groove and dramatic backdrop. It’s as though a lost offspring has been returned to the fold
