With this intriguing remix, Alex ‘Stormy’ Mundy gives us an alternative glimpse into what King Crimson might have been like had the VCS3 synthesiser been given a more prominent role in the group’s sound. Pete Sinfield had met up with Peter Zinovieff, the creator of the device at the EMS premises in Putney sometime during 1969. “I must have bought either the first or second VCS3 and it really was simple for me to understand its basics and its limitations as I, er, pushed its envelopes. I loved it!” On this track, the melodic accompaniment is played by Fripp and in this new mix, we can really hear the different textures where it shadows sax and guitar. The track also boasts Mellotron not heard in the original release and further additional guitar, as well as a comment from Fripp and more than we've heard before of Gordon Haskell's garrulous but exasperated laughter at the end.

I completely agree with what Allan G Okada said previously. Lizard has been mislabeled as somewhat of a failure IMO. I think it was immeasurably important in the evolution of the band as it was the first real test with Robert at the helm. He was only 24 at the time and had lost his primary writer. There must have been extraordinary pressure placed upon him considering in those days two releases/year were contractual obligations. It was a huge step forward and the quartet was quite complime...

LOVE IT !
I absolutely adore the glorious chaos of this track and Happy Family that follows. There’s really nothing like it. And although many disagree, Haskell’s voice is perfectly suited and adds a menace that no other KC singer had, despite his own objections. These new little tidbits that appear add a new freshness to this chaos making it even more enjoyable to hear. The depth of this album is almost endless and this is a great example of the many ways it can be heard. Fantastic work here! Thanks ...
