As the title cunningly implies this piece is taken from a test loop prior to Robert’s appearance at The Kitchen Video Arts Center in New York, February 5th 1978. The date is important, marking as it does Robert’s debut as a solo performer and the first public unveiling of Frippertronics. The opening night (of two) was subject to intense interest from the public with lines spreading around the block in freezing cold weather, requiring an impromptu second performance to try and accommodate the heavy numbers of eager punters queuing up. These loops would have been prepared by Robert as test pieces and ultimately used by him to solo over.

Perhaps the description should be morning instead of evening - there was only one show scheduled - at 10 AM Sunday. Having hitchhiked overbite from upstate, I arrived at 7 AM to find the stairwell leading up to the venue filled, the line out the door, and the temperature below freezing. As the line grew to wrap around the block, Robert appeared outdoors to tell the hopefuls NOT to buy scalped tickets - he would get as many people into the event as possible, and if that failed to get all in, he w...

So a 2nd separate admission event was added - if memory serves, that commenced at 12 noon. I was one of the lucky ones who got to see both. Well, this little piece made me cry, it is simply amazing. I wonder how the old Frippertronics recordings could be mixed live with new digital Frippertronics? What an amazing world that would be. Also, perhaps its time Pauline Oliveros and Robert Fripp had a concert together? Andrew

A precious gem, to me at least
I have loved Frippertronics since listening to Let The Power Fall when I was seventeen. Later I acquired a used copy of the God Save The Queen LP record and treasure my digitized crackly audio files from this. ANY frippertronics that comes to me now is a special joy, but this little nugget is just so gorgeous and understated that it was a double surpise.
