Any concert is a two-way street between the artist and the audience. Robert has often said that something becomes possible when listeners engage with the music (rough paraphrase). During this show, there were several people taking notes as the soundscapes emerged. Whether this is a good or bad thing is perhaps one for the philosophers out there but at least it means they aren’t taking photos or some other asshat activity that might derail the occasion. Building to monumental proportions, the opening 'scape is an awesome beast. It’s somehow hard to reconcile the brooding darkness swirling within this music with the fact that it's only 2 pm. After the plangent tones of the second piece, Fripp dives into the deep once again with low drones, and in the fourth ‘scape, a series of angular fretboard excursions sent tumbling into space. If you like the dark stuff, this is an astonishingly satisfying concert.
