Playing with a confidence and assurance bordering on scary, there was no grasping and searching for the muse on this evening – they upped and grabbed it by the lapels and swung it around.
Arguably this gig distils and delivers the electronica version of Crim that Fripp had thought about at the start of the KC-Fractal process.
The main set concludes with a profoundly danceable rendition of Seizure that beats any other version officially available to date. Of this track I wrote at the time “Trey and Tony tap out the two notes, RF conjures up the dark stuff. As the rhythm keeps building up, so does the sense of excitement and anticipation. I'm convinced I can hear King Crimson playing.”
In his diary, Fripp remarks “My sense is the performance came together for the second set. A generous audience, and some good Crimson music emerging.”
Aside from Fripp’s brief career as a stand-up comedian (telling one of his sister’s jokes) the other bonus track here is a cracking little version of Vrooom – slightly out of place considering the rest of the music, but designed to send the good folks of SF home with a recognisable spring in their step. Absolutely fecking essential!
