Larks’ Tongues In Aspic Part 2 was always a piledriver of a track but what’s interesting with this stripped down version, is just how powerful the thing is even without Bill Bruford’s drumming and Jamie Muir’s metallic embellishments.
Another fascinating aspect of these isolated tracks is that we can hear the careful layering that goes on within the track that goes to help build tension and create impact.
Also worth noting is that for the first time we clearly hear a reversed piano chord, dropped down a few octaves, thrumming under the very end of the piece. The growling rasp of the sustained note heard on this version was mixed out on the original release.
Once again, a fascinating glimpse into a kind of secret life within the tracks thanks to Alex 'Stormy' Mundy.
This Track is now available as part of Mr Stormy's Monday Selection Volume 8 of treasures from the murky, cavernous DGM archives, are now available in Full Flac Fidelity
