I was at this performance. As to the length of the show. As far as I can remember Robert played the full length of the tape in the machine, rewound the tape and asked if anyone had any questions. After talking for a while he then played over the first part of his performance.
With King Crimson keeping him fairly busy during 1982, there were only two Frippertronics gigs. The first took place in the US in June and the following month he was one of the guest players at the very first WOMAD festival organised by Peter Gabriel. Fripp shared the bill with the likes of Echo And The Bunnymen, Don Cherry, The Drummers Of Burundi and others. The length of the reels suggest this was a fairly short appearance but as ever, it’s not quantity but quality that counts. The second piece has a brief Exposure-style sweep to it while the third one evokes a fairly sombre mood whose early part is reminiscent of Fripp and Eno’s The Heavenly Music Corporation leading into a somewhat reflective and melancholic end. This show also marks the last time Fripp used his classic Les Paul / Twin Revox set-up.
