1995 was a busy year for Robert Fripp. Beginning in late January and early February with a series of Soundscape dates in California, the release of King Crimson’s THRAK followed in April as Fripp undertook a seven-day residency at the Goethe Institute in Buenos Aires, Argentina, just ahead of the Double Trio extensive European tour in May. The Washington Square venue had previously been the venue for some significant work in July and August 1981. At that time technology then came in the form of two Revox tape recorders. 14 years later, Fripp was working exclusively with a digital rig. If the scale of Frippertronics might be said to be intimate, the vastly expanded tonal palette available in Soundscapes seems to be moving toward the infinite.
