The most intimate version of "Mary"
Each successive version of this song that is released is more intimate than the previous. The Terre Roche vocal version from the original LP had a stateliness that was superseded by the soulfulness of Daryl Hall’s alternate take version. And now, we have the closest evidence of the original idea, played by Fripp, alone. Another gem
Another interesting tidbit that gives a glimpse at the early writing process of these now classic pieces of music. I wonder if there are any of these that never went beyond this stage and were forgotten. Wouldn’t it be interesting to hear how Robert would finish it some 30+ years later ?
