GOOD EVENING, ANN ARBOR

Two new additions to the King Crimson archive: audience recordings documenting the band doing two performances in one night at The Second Chance in Ann Harbor on February 22nd, 1982.

A few words from the first show notes, by Sid Smith: Third date into the first North American tour and the Crims are doing two gigs in one night again. It does make you wonder how they do it. With the first show starting at 9.00pm the quartet hurl themselves into the set with evident enthusiasm. Although the tape quality is pretty variable throughout the show, it’s possible to get a sense of how inventive the material sounds.

A few words from the second show notes, by Sid Smith: With the second show starting at midnight in the appropriately named Second Chance club, if the Crims are tired it isn’t immediately obvious in this not-too-bad audience recording. To be able to summon up the kinds of energies required to animate this repertoire properly says something about the tenacity, commitment, and enthusiasm to perform this music, no matter the hour.
