The Basement.
Theory, divorced from practice, is a monster.
18.12 The Fifth Man Reactivated --
King Crimson Line-Up Seven began rehearsals at noon. At least, three quarters of them began at noon. The older guitarist was making coffee for the rhythm section & Earl Grey tea for David. A full team was underway at 12.45.
An afternoon mostly of laughter and some very good music. We toasted at the end of the working day with an excellent whistle. Even Funk Fingers appeared --
Now, we are listening to a CD supplied by TLev that sets new standards of information-provision. Big Bosomed Woman is a currently underway, although whether it can follow God's Backhand is debatable --
Through the early part of the rehearsals TLev's Powerbook was presenting a photo collection, scanned black & whites from the TLev archives, of Crimson in 1981-82. Watching, while playing Elephant & Thela, the thought flew by I have lived too long. Seeing those young men again, and for the first time, was quietly astonishing: they obviously feel what they are doing has value & is making a difference. I have no sense of career musicians at work: these are commitment players. So young, and so thin.
We are now listening to Do It Like A Dog.
