An innovation at breakfast: the NPU, formerly a small unit on a table by the trough, has been replaced in its function by an in-ceiling in-house NPU that broadcasts its sonic pap at an amplitude outside the control of humble workers in the breakfasting zone. Internet ad-free new-ageish contemporary muzak, approximating to a non-disturbing disturbance, is now in the controlling hands of Reception & its Persons. For what reason the change, I wonder?

Will Hutton argues for fairness. I am persuaded, but then I was already persuaded. The problem is to persuade someone whose instincts are not oriented towards distributive justice, are not concerned whether fairness is the way to go; rather, someone who is greedy, exploitative, hubristic, bullying & prepared to lie to further their personal position. Regular readers of this Diary may be able to find a name or two to exemplify the latter category. All part of background reading for The Writing Project.
