The Hartford Civic Centre is an ugly concrete brutalist monstrosity which demonstrates in architecture that the civic centre is absent of a civil impulse. Nor does there appear to be civic activity at the weekend here at all: there is no heart at the centre.

An enjoyable performance. The dressing rooms are impressively dumpy. An enthusiastic audience, with the notable exception of a young man in front of Trey who had come along to have a bad time. It was astonishing how much of a good time he had having a bad time. He only smiled once that I saw, that at the end of the show, to his friend on his left. I saw him clapping once, right at the end, very slowly to signal how much of a good time he was having having a bad time. Perhaps he is English, adrift in Hartford, Connecticut.
