DGM HQ An uncharacteristic lightsleeping

09.56

DGM HQ.

An uncharacteristic light-sleeping night, so running different forms of the Secondary Exercises in the mind’s eye. Rising at 07.55, cutting back on jet-lag.

A bright, sharp and handsome Autumn morning along the valley I…

Morning reading…

David and Indeg were in c. 09.45, just after a call for David: an interesting part of the soon-to-be-revealed Vicar project.

The boiler is working, after resting without action since yesterday afternoon. In our crumbling office there is now a rumour of warmth.

12.29 Kitchen meeting with David c. 10.12. There is a waving guitarist on the Vicar’s Diary; and audio book plans also discussed.

Into the Art Department to present an invited opinion on two alternative spines for the Vicar book.

14.33 E-flurrying.

And writing a piece for P**G Magazine: the music form that dare not speak its name.

14.43    To a respected e-correspondent…

Personal criteria for action:

If it's worth doing, it's worth doing for nothing.
if it's worth doing for nothing, it's worth doing well.

For nothing, because that's the bottom line in my industry…

Now, as a former working player, i've never been personally happier. my Wife also appears happy to see more of me.

15.45 A new development in Vicar World.

And paper-sorting in the Chamber of Venality.

16.20 David has entered the Chamber to demonstrate the working
version of the new development. Most exciting.

16.45 Car loaded. Last deskings of the day.

17.44 Oh no! E-eruptions. And a ‘phone conversation with a former Crafty, now a professional musician with significant credits, in desperation with his future.

My advice: re-establish the morning sitting. Life without the morning sitting is like trying to walk without legs. This is the beginning, the foundation, of strengthening personal presence. If we are absent, then life is all stuff. Nothing real happens; so when things go wrong, it’s not possible to deal with them. If we are present, things will continue to go wrong; but, increasingly, the things that go wrong are real. That being so, there is something that can be done.

But today, if I were 21, I would remain in real estate. My musical life was part of a different time in the world.

18.12 Enough. Closing the desk and returning home via Wilton.

22.12 Bredonborough.

Dropping in to visit Mr. Romain in Romain’s Emporium Of Ancient Wonders I…

Mr. Romain is in good shape and has acquired several new (ie old) pieces, including the wainscot chair he is modeling above.

Setting off, finding the A417 closed near Cricklade. A diversion through the countryside added half an hour to the journey.

Arriving to find WillyFred waiting for attention. Play time for this Prince of Rabbits.
