DGM HQ A bright sunny

10.53

DGM HQ.

A bright, sunny beginning day. This helped to lift the Fripp animal from the office floor, dribbling into another day with Devil Bug, albeit with less salivation than yesterday.

A meeting with David in the kitchen, at the beginning of the working day, to catch up with current DGM & DGM Live arisings. DGM accounts have just gone out; preparing them presses heavily on David. We have now retained a superb auditor/account person to handle these, but passing functional responsibilities to a new person initially takes more energy than it saves.

Also discussed: the proposal to increase the UK copyright period on sound recordings from 50 to 70 years. This was featured on national tv news yesterday, and has been under discussion in the industry for some time. The main argument presented is that artists will suffer. The argument that is not presented is, whenever a major record catalogue approaches the end of its period, the copyright owners (rarely the artists) begin to lobby for an extension. The standard royalty rates paid at the time were pretty dismal by present standards, even before conventional deductions; so how much artist income this amounts to today (other than the small number of monster catalogues) is moot, IMO.

I wonder if John Perry Barlow would support the extension

Upstairs in Soundworld II Alex is preparing Crimson On Fire! from Shepherds Bush Empire on July 1st. 1996. Alex is acting in direct response to the DGM Live Guestbook posting:

Might it be useful, or at least informative, to start a petition of fans who would like to finally see a complete show from KC in 1996 become available?

Declan Colgan of Panegyric, the DGM distributor in Europe, rates this as one of the finest rock shows he has witnessed.
