Ace B&B, Ely.

John & Alex left about 07.40, sans breakfast. Treat for me: on a non-performance day – tasty breakfast! I have been very happy here & would love to return to the self-catering guest wing for a break.

A little stuff, then off to Milton Keynes

Milton Keynes: this visit is the first for me. What a strange place. Very 60s in construction, a vast shopping centre spread over several blocks & set out on a grid; much more American than English in sensibility. Housing estates are on the perimeter of the central shopping district with distinct separation between people & place. T is here for the season in Snow White & The Seven Dwarves & I am visiting my Wife.

Tonight was the press night for Snow White at the MK Theatre. I went along to cheer, hiss & boo loudly. Conventionally, everyone boos the Wicked Queen & other baddies in English pantomime. The Wicked Queen tonight is a very Slinky Minx indeed; I was the only person cheering her on as she cast spells and was very, very nasty indeed to poor Snow White.

This production very much raises the bar for pantos. A superb show, although the audience were strangely passive for a panto audience, even in the South. Perhaps it was a Tuesday evening. For me, a wonderful fabbo evening enjoying the performing work of others.

A post-show gathering for the cast & production team, now back to Hotel Businesslike to gentle.
