From a respected correspondent, and Four Quarter Maintainer…
A classical concert is a high-status social event with fairly rigid definitions of proper deportment (no talking once the musicians appear on stage, get up and leave if you can’t stop coughing, etc) – no drums! (not many, anyway - maybe a couple of tympani, a triangle, and the odd cannon…)
A rock concert is an egalitarian, drum-driven tribal gathering where “anything goes.”
KC brings, at a minimum, a classical musician’s level of discipline to rocking out.
People in the audience have parted with their hard-earned pay and are expecting to rock out and to some extent to be free from ordinary constraints on behavior (it may be a very stale holdover from the 60s/70s, but it’s still part of concept). The band and any FQMs present can invite them to change their expectations. Whether they accept our invitation or not is up to their own will, which as far as we’re concerned is and must remain free.
