Davids Diary I dont wish

David's Diary

I don't wish to get deep and meaningles. but Art is a curious thng. Today, I recorded a quick version of the song "Red White and Blue". Lyrics as follows :

Try to understand his face is not so different from yours
Try to understand to him it lacks that scar gained in the war
For that scar he would give a life of peace and love
For who sees his flag soaked in swaet when yours is bathed in blood

Such a good year for the red white and blue
But I wonder should we feel sad
When i takes a good year for the red white and blue
For someone to feel proud

Try to understand the guilt of having things you cannot earn
Try to understand for him there is no god nowhere to turn
No more will he hear he's living in your debt
That flame that brought you close to death he now kindles as a test

Such a good year for the red white and blue
But I wonder do we kow the cost
of a good year for the red white and blue
For the father and son

I make no claims for the quality of the writing - but it seems eerily topical...although I wrote it over twenty years ago.

As a side note,The Vicar and I had decided to use an eletric guitar and drums on this track - in keeping with my original conception. But Punk - who would finally have been allowed to drum - persuaded us to remove both the guitar and the drums, so the track is currently just bass and vocals. If the new site ever surprises us all by springing into action, I shall pots some MP3s. On that topic, dos anyone recall the "Where is hissing Sid?" campaign. Perhaps we need to relaunch it. Where is Sid, webmaster and sometime biographer of obscure rock bands?? Answers on a postcard.
