My work today has already been well documented in the DGM News section. The VROOOM VROOOM album is a stunning reassessment of the double trio. Mea culpa. I admit it. I did not fully appreciate them while they were here. The first CD "Live in Mexico City" - better described as a "Symphony of Noise" - is largely instrumental "power metal" :
VROOOM VROOOM
DINOSAUR
BBOOM
THRAK
TALKING DRUM
LARKS2
NEUROTICA
PRISM
RED
improv : BIKER BABES OF THE RIO GRANDE (see later)
SCHIZOID MAN
The second CD, Live at the Broadway, presents us with the "bopping pop band" :
CONUNDRUM
THELA HUNJINGEET
FRAME BY FRAME
PEOPLE
ONE TIME
SEX SLEEP EAT DRINK DREAM
INDISCIPLINE
ELEPHANT TALK
THREE OF A PERFECT PAIR
Before taking a surprise left turn into
BBOOM
THRAK
seguing into
FREE AS A BIRD
and ending with an all time personal favourite
WALKING ON AIR from the Wiltern in LA
A veritable smorgasbord.
I have been asked to offer an explanation for the strangely "bi coastal" nature of the Broadway Theater on the night in question. I shall submit the following for the liner notes:
No one space and time can contain King Crimson. The walls of the Metropolitan Theater in Mexico City expand over the border to accommodate a visit from the 'biker babes of the Rio Grande', who hail from Broadway NY. And how better to end a perfect night at the Broadway than with the exquisite experience of 'Walking on Air' at the Wiltern in LA, with a surprise stop in Springfield. 'Surface truth is bent so that a deeper truth may spring more effortlessly into our fallen world'.
The Vicar DGM World Central 31 August 2001
Or perhaps the final sentence should read
"As satisfying and consistent as the time honoured tradition of ending a good party in London with breakfast in Paris".
or simply that
"At eleven o'clock at night, after several glasses of Marks and Spencer sparkling white wine, and when suitably goaded by Fripp and Singleton, you make strange but interesting decisions".
I am sure that all of the above are true.
