Today at the Vicarage Campden

Today at the Vicarage : Campden Town.

Baroque Adagios have been replaced in my hifi station by Vaughan Williams Phantasy Quintet, and string Quartets nos 1 & 2. Purchased at Tower Records while I was in Nashville for the princely sum of $6.99. A feast. Which is lucky, as my breakfast grapefruit was a pale, dessicated, pitiful disappointment. Tchtt.

I am in pre production with a band who have asked to remain nameless – the Nameless Wonders they shall therefore be. This is my first day, spent on the elderly Laura Ashley couch at the back of the room, observing their working practice. It is rare for full group sessions like this to be truly creative, and these are no exception. Each of the members is focussed to such an extent on his own performance, that there is little cohesive overview. The working part of the day would seem to start at around 1 pm and end at 4 pm. Within this three hour period, if today is an accurate picture, there is actually less than 30 minutes focussed work. Although the music does improve simply with playing.

One wonders if life is too short. Small incremental changes may be transformative, but they remain small.
