Is that the bass line to Sailor’s Tale being played by Fripp on his phat bass setting during the opening stages of tonight’s Improv? Well, close but no cigar. Gunn steps up to the mark and lets fly with some righteous shredding that recalls the glory days of P2 and P4. Then there’s a deep-down and dirty dueling bass work out between Robert and Trey providing a bit of light relief before Ade joins in the fun with his customary abuse and misuse of the fretboard. Marcin Gokieli had been at the previous night’s gig but went back for a second helping the following evening. He shared his take with ET readers. “The character of the thing was a bit different: I think that during the first concert, it was Fripp who lead the band, his solos and other work were the most stimulating. On the second one it was a bit different: first, Adrian played loads of fun stuff, mad parts in the most unexcpectable moments, etc. But THE STAR of the evening was Trey, who really blew everything away. During the improv he played a tremendous 'bass' duet with RF, and a killer 'guitar' solo after. Every note he played was extraordinary. He entered with strange motives in the most arranged songs (Fracktured, for example), and was really GREAT. Maybe he does that often, but i do think that he had one of the better nights of the tour.”
