“Very rocking show tonight. A truly appreciative crowd. It seemed like we were playinh to a lot of new people tonight, and they were really into it!” says Trey Gunn in his diary. “It was a standing audience with people pushed right up close to the stage. I get the feeling that a show like this is so intimate that it can’t but help to catch people on fire. You could see it in their eyes. I have no doubt that we made a lot of fans for life tonight.”

And it’s no wonder that after a totally rocking Heavy ConstruKction you can hear Adrian Belew yell his approval from behind the V-drums. This is pretty intense stuff and no doubt about it. Belew comes to the front of the stage with his guitar to perform another racing version of Young Lions and an echo-heavy Men In Helicopters. “this requires this part of my mind to think one thing, this part of my mind to think the other thing...leaving the middle part empty” quips Belew before heading into Three Of A Perfect Pair.

After a blast of Crimson past, P2 reconvene and take off into Crimson future with a pensive Deception of the Thrush. There aren’t too many shows that start the second set with a number normally reserved for later in the show. It turns out that part of the set was reserved for a new addition to the P2 repertoire. As Gunn reveals,”We worked up a house version of Schizoid Man at the soundcheck, and then played it to thoroughly stunned faces during the encore. It was exceptionally cool, I must say so myself.”
