After travelling from Quebec where they had played the city’s Grand Theatre on May 30th, the Crims touched down in Philadelphia, a location with which King Crimson had long enjoyed a certain affinity. After establishing themselves in the gig with Marine 474, Frame By Frame, Dinosaur and an ethereal One Time, Adrian says, “Good evening, even though we’ve now played in Argentina, all across Europe, parts of Canada, even somewhere in Buffalo, New York, the tour doesn’t really start until you hit Philadelphia.”
The energy levels ramp back up with a savage blast of Red, garnering a standing ovation from the enthusiastic crowd, and the run through B’Boom is especially joyous. It’s interesting to hear the reappearance of Matte Kudasai. It had been played only twice before on this leg of the tour but after tonight it would become a staple of the setlist thereafter. Belew’s vocal here is especially soulful and tender and clearly appreciated by the fans.
