On a promo call to a US radio station supporting the newly released Discipline album in the fall of 1981, Adrian Belew was asked about the contrast between the previous incarnation of King Crimson which the interviewer viewed as being somewhat sombre, and the new version lead on stage by someone smiling and bobbing around and giving every impression of having fun. “Well, for me that’s kind of important at this point. Basically that I’m expressing my own personality, which I believe everyone should do with music,” explained Belew. Injecting a nonchalant quality as a frontman and making things look and sound easy when in fact he was undertaking seriously difficult tasks was always Belew’s secret weapon. Belew’s smiling persona is imprinted all the way through this very listenable audience recording featuring a stunning Indiscipline and a dazzling Frame By Frame - two numbers that encapsulate the yin and yang principles at the heart of the group.
