Bijou Cafe 2nd Performance
Only an hour has passed since the first show of the evening but Robert and the team are back on stage at 11.30 for another engagement with dance culture. If the band are tired from already having done what was a great show there’s little trace of it to be found on this recording. After the break of the restive Prelude (titled, er, Untitled) they take off again with a cracking Thrang Thrang Gozinbulx II in Fripp sounds like he’s playing the ascending lead lines of Fracture. After the cracking hi-hat heavy, proto-disco workout of Ooh Mr. Fripp, has got the crowd whipped up to a frenzy, the man himself, clearly grinning, is heard to say “Control yourselves! What kind of display of feelings is this?” The gig was reviewed in the local press but while describing the sound produced by the LOG as “simulated computer music. . .and not even interesting computer music.” The headline of the piece takes issue with the assertion that they are a dance band: “So what if there isn’t a beat you can dance to?” Isn’t a beat? Isn’t a freakin’ beat? Which gig was this cloth-eared critic at ferchrissakes!!!
