Recorded in the aftermath of King Crimson’s implosion in 1969, when two of its founding members unexpectedly quit the band, In the Wake Of Poseidon is an eclectic and experimental mix of bone-crunching riffs, Beatles-ish pop, tender ballads, soaring mellotron-drenched anthems and inscrutable atonal episodes. Highlights include Fripp’s savage guitar throughout Pictures Of A City and Greg Lake’s stunning vocal on the title track - his last with the group before his departure to form ELP. Thanks to the success of their 1969 debut, when In The Wake Of Poseidon was released in May 1970 it peaked at No.4 in the UK charts with one journalist proclaiming “If Wagner were alive today he’d work with King Crimson.”

Most of the Crim fans that I meet, usually say that this album is a "bore" or a "repeat of court" when it couldn't be farther from the truth! This is one of the most overlooked albums in their catalog, and one of their best. The tracklisting and pacing in this album is incredible! The opening track (Pictures of a city) is honestly of the most jazziest and smoothest songs ever made by Crim and it's followed by the ever beautiful Cadence and Cascade, sung by Gordon Haskell. It moves to one of the most profound songs made by crim, In The Wake Of Poseidon with Greg Lake's beautiful vocals and Robert's Beautiful guitar work. The next side starts with a little guitar part and moves into the always-wild Cat Food with its distorted guitar and fast vocals, next comes the MOST UNDERRATED CRIMSON SONG: The Devil's Triangle. This song builds and builds and builds and builds on a constant beat as more and more instruments get added when the last few seconds are furying frenzy of different sound effects (Including In The Court Of The Crimson King!) The final track on the album wraps it all up, completing the peace suite with a lasting ending. This is honestly so overhated by crim fans alike! And in my opinion, it's even better than Court.

This is an outstanding album
In the wake of Poseidon is one of the KC classic songs, cadence and cascade is a beautiful ballad sung by Greg Lake as an extra-track. What a loss that Greg left us.

After your audience with the Crimson King, you have to witness the wake of Poseidon
After their first legendary album, Fripp decided to follow the formula that made it soo good.
This, of course, comes with the expense of some originality.
The main grudge people have with this record is that it sounds a lot like the Court.
I'm not going to say Pictures of a City sounds as good as Schizoid Man, but Cadence and Cascade and the Title track gain their spot for being majestic on their own.

The title track is my favorite song on the album, I feel Giles' drums and, Greg's vocals and Peter's lyrics are all perfected in this track, making it the definitive experience for fans of this lineup.
Not to mention the great "Crimsonised" version of Mars: The Bringer of War and the delicious wink to Syd Barred and Floyd in "Cat Food" makes this an obligatory listen to King Crimson fans.
